There is a possibility that a merger between Peter Obi and Kwankwaso would work out ahead of the 2023 presidential election. But there are challenges they are facing which may threaten the possibility of that merger if not peacefully resolved. One of the problems is the issue of who would be the presidential candidate and the running mate between Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso.
But Kwankwaso who is the presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party, NNPP, has said that the electorate in the North won’t vote for the candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi if Obi becomes the candidate of the proposed NNPP-LP alliance for the 2023 general elections. The former Kano Governor stated this while featuring on Sunday Politics, a current affairs programme on Channels Television.
According to him, the northerners would always vote for their northern candidate. When asked if he was willing to be Obi’s running mate, Kwankwaso said that what he was saying was that if anybody from the South-East now, under this circumstance, becomes the presidential candidate of their party or any other party, the implications is that because of the activities and other issues that are really on the ground, northern voters would certainly go for their northern candidate and another party.
