The world of cosmetics is an ever-growing one, with new products constantly fighting for attention and claiming to be able to solve all your problems. This is why, when shopping for beauty and skincare products, you can never be too careful. You must pay attention to all the little things that can cause big problems for your skin.
So here is a list of things to consider.
Skin tone.
When buying skincare items, you want to look out for products that match your skin tone. You must ask yourself, was this product made with a dark or light-skinned person in mind. Will this product alter my complexion in an undesirable way.
Skin type
When it comes to beauty shopping, let your skin be your guide. There are four basic types of healthy skin: oily, dry, normal, and combination skin. It is majorly determined by genetics, however, the internal and external factors we subject our skin to can cause its state to vary a great deal.
Most products are labeled according to the skin type they cater to, so the trick is to know your skin and what works for it. Note that it is possible to have more than one type of skin on one part of your body (hence, combination skin)
Product pH
This is super important because of the bacteria that exist naturally on the skin. pH refers to the level of acidity or alkalinity of a solution. You want to maintain a balance and protect the healthy bacteria that live on the skin. Issues like skin burn and discoloration that occur from product use are usually pH problems.
Product purpose
When shopping for beauty products, make sure you shop with your purpose in mind. Buy products that target your primary skin concern whatever it is. Avoid products that do too many things. Products like serums and face masks usually have particular problems that they tackle. So whether it’s acne or hyperpigmentation, pick a product with ingredients that focus on you.
Product availability
Imagine going beauty shopping in a foreign country on holidays only to find a product that is perfect for you. It then becomes ‘THE’ product, the holy grail of your beauty regimen but then you run out and realize that not only is it not available near you, but it also doesn’t ship to your country either!
Before you buy a product, please make sure it is readily available.
Proper skincare is not as challenging as it sometimes sounds. Once you get familiar with your skin and its unique needs, finding the best products becomes easy, and getting the best results becomes second nature.
