Abia State government has reacted to the news making rounds that it had sacked all medical doctors under the employ of the Ministry of Health, describing it as a mistake blown out of proportion.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo, while reacting to
the circular that called for the reapplication of doctors under the employ of the state’s ministry of health or risk losing their job on or before the expiration of the date given to them said it was blown out of proportion describing it as a mistake by the Acting Director for Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Hemuka Rock Biale which has been tackled.
Okoronkwo explained that the write up was a misrepresentation of the intended message which were directed to heads of agencies under the Ministry across the state, adding that there was no need for what she described as a brouhaha going on in the state.
She described the use of the word “sack” as circulated in the media to have a political undertone as there was nothing like that in the memo and described it as the hand work of mischief makers, noting that the Ministry cannot be conducting free medical services and sack the same doctors used for same. She said the tension has been doused and everything handled accordingly.
According to her “nobody is aversed to mistakes, for me i think it was issues around the use of sentences and construction of words rather than inciting other things. There was nothing around been sacked on the document so where did the word sack come from? So you see that there are political coloration to that and you can agree with me that you can’t be conducting free medical services and be sacking doctors”.
Okoronkwo said the Ministry remains committed to the actualization of the dreams of the present administration to making the health sector the envy of all.
