Ademola Lookman Nominated for 2024 Globe Soccer Awards

Ademola Lookman has been named among the nominees for the 2024 Best Men’s Player award at the prestigious Globe Soccer Awards, organized by the Dubai Sports Council. The announcement, made on Thursday via X, recognizes Lookman as one of football’s top talents. The Nigerian winger, who finished 14th in this year’s Ballon d’Or rankings, is the second African nominee, joining Egypt’s Mohamed Salah, the Liverpool forward.

Lookman’s inclusion follows in the footsteps of his compatriot, Victor Osimhen, who made the final shortlist for the award last year. The 27-year-old, who previously played for Leicester City and RB Leipzig, is now excelling with Atalanta in Italy’s Serie A. He joins footballing giants such as Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappé, and Erling Haaland among the elite nominees.

Lookman had an impressive 2023-2024 season, scoring 17 goals and providing 10 assists in 45 appearances across all competitions, including a hat-trick in the UEFA Europa League final. He has continued his fine form into the new season, already notching 8 goals and 5 assists in just 14 matches for Atalanta. The Nigerian forward is also in the running for the 2024 CAF Player of the Year Award.

The nominees list features several other top stars, including Manchester City’s Phil Foden, Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham, and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer from England. Spain, the European champions, have five nominees, including Ballon d’Or winner Rodri, as well as Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams.

The inclusion of Messi and Ronaldo further underscores their legendary careers, with both players maintaining high levels of excellence as they approach the twilight of their careers.

The Globe Soccer Awards will determine the finalists based on the highest number of votes. The 15th edition of the Beyond Development Dubai #GlobeSoccer Awards will take place on December 27th, alongside the 19th Dubai International Sports Conference, in partnership with the Dubai Sports Council.
