The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has included three Nigerian stars, Victor Osimhen, Calvin Bassey, and Ademola Lookman, in its official Best XI of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The list, unveiled on Wednesday morning, comes just days after the conclusion of the tournament and is largely dominated by players from Nigeria, Senegal, and Morocco.
Osimhen featured in five of Nigeria’s six matches at the tournament, playing a key role as the Super Eagles clinched the bronze medal in Morocco. The Galatasaray forward netted four goals during the competition.
Ademola Lookman emerged as one of the standout performers of AFCON 2025. The Atalanta winger recorded the highest goal involvement, scoring three goals and providing four assists. Meanwhile, Fulham defender Calvin Bassey earned his place in the Best XI following a series of commanding defensive displays.
Bassey was a mainstay in Nigeria’s defence, helping the team keep three clean sheets in the six matches he played. He featured in every game under head coach Eric Chelle but missed the third-place playoff due to suspension.
While Nigeria secured three spots in the Best XI, Senegal and Morocco led the list with four players each.
Morocco’s representatives include goalkeeper Yassine Bounou, who conceded only two goals in seven matches, alongside Achraf Hakimi, Noussair Mazraoui, and tournament top scorer Brahim DÃaz.
Tournament champions Senegal are represented by Moussa Niakhaté, Pape Gueye, Idrissa Gueye, and forward Sadio Mané, who was named Player of the Tournament.
