At least 10 people were killed including a police officer on Monday, March 22, 2020 in what appears to be a random Colorado Supermarket attack.
Police now have Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa in custody as the prime suspect in the shooting.
The 21 year old Syrian American is said to have purchased the firearm used in the shooting just 6 days before on, March 16.
Officials are yet to discover a motive or where the firearm was bought but say that the suspects family shared that they believe the suspect to be suffering from some sort of mental illness. Members of his family while speaking to investigators, described times when Ahmad had told them that he thought he was being chased or followed.
In Washington, President Joe Biden called on Congress to tighten the nation’s gun laws stating that “Ten lives have been lost, and more families have been shattered by gun violence in the state of Colorado”
The shooting came just 10 days after a judge blocked a ban on assault rifles passed by the city of Boulder in 2018.
While Police affidavit shows that Ahmad was found guilty of assault and sentenced to probation and assault in 2018 while in high school, Ahmad’s father described his son as a devoted father who “knew the Lord.”
