Akwa Ibom Expands Ibom Air Fleet with Two New Aircraft

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, officially received two new Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft for Ibom Air on Friday, underscoring his administration’s focus on profitable public investments. Governor Eno assured that all investments made with public funds, including these new aircraft, would be managed to maximize returns for the state.

Leading residents at the reception of the aircraft tagged 5N-CED and 5N-CEE, Eno emphasized that the acquisition was fully funded by the state government, avoiding loans or financial institution support. He noted that This strategic move reflects his administration’s commitment to avoid debt and focus on investments that generate returns for Akwa Ibom.

The governor praised Ibom Air’s contributions to the Nigerian aviation sector and directed its management to ensure profitability by 2025, aligning with the state’s goals. He also urged the airline to prioritize uninterrupted service for Uyo travelers.

Governor Eno highlighted other key infrastructure projects underway, including an 18-story office complex in Lagos and a soon-to-be-launched four-star hotel on state-owned land in Abuja. An international market in Ikot Ekpene and partial activation of the new international terminal at Victor Attah International Airport are also expected by December, with full operations slated for 2025.

“We will continue to invest the state’s resources in projects benefiting all citizens, not in private interests,” Eno stated. “Our critical infrastructure developments, including the Ibom towers in Lagos, will proceed without loans, with completion aimed for within 24 months.”

The governor also inspected the Ibom Aviation Village site, announcing a formal groundbreaking in two weeks.

The Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Udeme Otong, praised Governor Eno for his prudent and business-oriented approach, noting that in eighteen months, the governor has advanced significant initiatives without requesting loan approvals from the assembly.

Ibom Air Limited’s Chairman, Pastor Imoabasi Jacob, expressed gratitude to Akwa Ibom citizens and nationwide travelers for their patronage, highlighting that the airline’s fleet now stands at nine aircraft. CEO Captain Mfon Udom affirmed the new additions would boost service capacity for the holiday season.

Traditional leaders, including HRM Edidem Ita Edet Okokon III, commended the governor’s inclusive leadership, while Anie Essienette, Ibom Air’s Marketing and Communications Manager, noted the two new CRJ900s would greatly support Ibom Air in meeting high demand as the airline awaits nine additional Airbus deliveries.
