The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed reports that it withdrew the membership list of its 2027 Presidential Campaign Council following controversy over some of the names included in the document.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, described the reports as rumours, stressing that no official decision to withdraw the list had been communicated.
The controversy emerged after the APC unveiled its campaign council last week, with some political stakeholders questioning the inclusion of certain individuals and raising concerns about the composition of the committee.
President Bola Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima were named chairman and vice-chairman of the council respectively.
The APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, was also listed as vice-chairman, while former Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari, was appointed Director-General.
Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Hope Uzodimma, was named secretary.
Other notable figures listed on the council include former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu; former Chairperson of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund, Ngozi Olejeme; Executive Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, Zacch Adedeji; and Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation, Taminu Yakubu.
Reports had earlier suggested that concerns over some of the names led President Tinubu to request a review of the list ahead of the council’s inauguration.
Among the issues reportedly raised were the inclusion of individuals facing corruption allegations, the exclusion of some experienced party members and possible errors in compiling the list.
There were also reports that the inauguration date had not been announced because the party was still reviewing and fine-tuning the membership.
However, Morka, speaking on Tuesday, rejected claims that the APC had officially withdrawn the list.
“Rumours are not news. When people are carrying rumours, that is not news. There is fake news, and there is real news,” he said.
He further explained that the party was not releasing another list at the moment but would formally announce any changes if they became necessary.
“Nobody will give any list at the moment. But if there is any reason to update it, it would be announced properly,” he added.
For now, the recently unveiled list remains the latest officially announced composition of the APC’s 2027 Presidential Campaign Council, pending any formal changes communicated by the party.
