The Okun-Yoruba speaking area of Kogi State has yet come under severe terrorists’ attack as a Civil Defence Officer was killed and his daughter abducted in Odo-Ere, the headquarters of Yagba West Local Government Area of the State.
According to an eye witness account, the officer was attacked on Monday evening June 8, 2026 at his residence in Odo Ere before the abduction of his daughter.
Although there were still sketchy information as at the time of writing this report, but a source said the victim, identified as Mr. Ayo, a member of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), was shot in the head during the attack.
The source confirmed that Mr. Ayo was rushed to a medical facility but could not make it before he was attended to due to loss of too much blood . His remains have since been deposited in a mortuary.
The attackers reportedly abducted his first daughter before fleeing the area, further deepening fears among residents following the latest security breach in the community.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
It will be recalled that the same bandits’ attack was recorded in Aiyegunle – igun in kabba- bunu local government area last week Monday where two people were killed and 30 people abducted.
Three days later the bandits also invaded ikoyi community in ijumu local government area at about 7 pm where a burial ceremony was taking place and killed three people and abducted scores of people.
In both incidents, no victim had so far been rescued while people in the area live in perpetual fear.
The attacks have heightened concerns over the growing insecurity in Kogi West with residents calling for urgent intervention by security authorities.
