Bauchi: Tertiary Institutions Declare 2-week Warning Strike

Bauchi state tertiary institutions under the umbrella of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) have declared a two week warning strike from July 19.

The institutions are the Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic (ATAP) Aminu Saleh College of Education (ASCOE) College of Legal and Islamic Studies (CLIS) College of Agriculture Bauchi and College of Education Kangere.

JAC Chairman, Abdulkadir Mohammed made the statement at a press conference in Bauchi on Friday.

He said the action became imperative as a consequence of the expiry of the June 30 ultimatum issued to the state government by the committee.

He said the action was to press its demands including payment of back wages to its members.

“JAC has been on the lookout to record any notable positive changes that might translate to the assurances we have been given let alone talk about addressing other issues that have plagued us for quite some time”.

The June 2022 salary came with additional casualties, some of which had their cases resolved and some cases persist for months while others were added recently.

“The JAC formally declared a 14 day warning strike effective from Wednesday July 19 to Sunday July 30 2022 in order to draw the government’s attention to our legitimate demands.

“We call for the implementation of consequent adjustments that do not end organized work,” he said.

The president said that the JAC requested the immediate payment of outstanding salaries the resumption of the implementation of the promotion and the annual increase.

He said that the committee also rejected the registration of its members in the proposed Contributory Pension Scheme, and the deductions for the Health Insurance Contributory Scheme.

While commending Governor Bala Mohammed for his commitment to developing a clean and robust payroll system, the President called for the Governor’s intervention to address their plight.
