Popular Nigerian self-acclaimed relationship expert, Blessing CEO, has appealed to the public for financial assistance following a breast cancer diagnosis.
Reports indicate that she recently placed her Lagos mansion on distress sale to raise funds for chemotherapy treatment. In a video shared on Instagram on Wednesday evening, she opened up about her condition and the urgency of her situation.

While explaining her decision, she said, “Urgent surgery to amputate my left boobs or even both, depending on how fast it has spread.
“My name is Okoro Blessing Nkiruka and I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I need help”, she said.
What Is Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting women globally. It occurs when abnormal cells in the breast grow uncontrollably and form tumors.
About 80% of cases are invasive, meaning the cancer can spread to other parts of the body if not detected early.
Although it is more common in women especially those aged 50 and above, it can also affect younger women and, in rare cases, men. Treatment often includes surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, or targeted therapies depending on the stage and type.
What Are The Symptoms
Common signs and symptoms of breast cancer include:
A lump or thickened area in the breast
A nipple that becomes flattened or turns inward
Changes in breast skin color (red, pink, darker, or purple tones depending on skin type)
Changes in size, shape, or appearance of the breast
Dimpled skin or texture resembling an orange peel
Peeling, scaling, or crusting of the breast skin
Early detection of these symptoms significantly improves survival rates.
What Causes Breast Cancer?
While the exact cause is not always clear, experts identify several risk factors that increase the likelihood of developing breast cancer:
Age (especially 55 and above)
Gender (more common in women)
Family history of breast cancer
Genetic mutations (such as BRCA1 and BRCA2)
Smoking and alcohol consumption
Obesity
Radiation exposure
Hormone replacement therapy (HRT)
Stages
Breast cancer is classified using the TNM staging system, which evaluates:
Tumor size (T)
Lymph node involvement (N)
Spread to other parts of the body (M)
The disease is grouped into five stages, from early (Stage 0) to advanced (Stage 4). Understanding the stage helps doctors determine the most effective treatment plan.
How To Prevent Breast Cancer

Although not all cases can be prevented, certain lifestyle choices can reduce risk:
Regular screening and medical check-ups
Performing breast self-examinations
Limiting alcohol intake
Exercising regularly
Managing hormone therapy carefully
Maintaining a healthy weight
Being familiar with your body is key, early detection can save lives.
How Breast Cancer Is Treated
Breast cancer treatment depends on factors such as the stage, type of cancer, and overall health of the patient. Most treatment plans combine multiple approaches to achieve the best outcome.
- Surgery
This is often the first line of treatment and involves removing the tumor or affected breast tissue. Procedures may include:
Lumpectomy (removal of tumor only)
Mastectomy (removal of one or both breasts) - Chemotherapy
Chemotherapy uses powerful drugs to destroy cancer cells throughout the body. It may be used:
Before surgery to shrink tumors
After surgery to eliminate remaining cancer cells
In advanced stages to control spread and relieve symptoms - Radiation Therapy
This treatment uses high-energy rays to kill cancer cells, usually after surgery to reduce the risk of recurrence. It can also help control symptoms if cancer spreads. - Hormone (Endocrine) Therapy
Used for hormone-sensitive breast cancers, this treatment blocks hormones like estrogen that fuel cancer growth. - Targeted Therapy
This approach attacks specific proteins (such as HER2) that help cancer cells grow, reducing damage to healthy cells. - Immunotherapy (Emerging Option)
In some cases, immunotherapy helps the body’s immune system identify and fight cancer cells more effectively.
In many cases, doctors combine these treatments (called combination therapy) to improve survival rates and reduce the chances of recurrence.
Understanding the signs, risks, prevention methods, and available treatments of breast cancer can make a life-saving difference, as timely intervention remains the most effective weapon against the disease.
Natural Herbs For Breast Cancer Support

While conventional medical treatments like surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation remain the foundation of breast cancer care, scientific research has also explored natural plant‑derived herbs and compounds that may have supportive anticancer properties.
These natural agents are not replacements for prescribed therapies but are being studied for their potential biological effects on cancer cells and overall health, often through antioxidative, anti‑inflammatory, immunomodulatory, or cell‑signalling mechanisms.
Some of the best‑studied natural herbs and botanical compounds include:
Turmeric (Curcuma longa) – Curcumin, the main bioactive compound, has shown the ability to inhibit tumor cell proliferation and induce apoptosis (cell death) in breast cancer cell lines in laboratory studies.
Green tea (Camellia sinensis) – Rich in epigallocatechin‑3‑gallate (EGCG), green tea has been associated with protection against breast cancer and reduced recurrence in observational studies.
Garlic (Allium sativum) – Compounds like diallyl disulfide from garlic have demonstrated anti‑proliferative effects and potential tumor reduction in experimental models.
Ginseng (Panax ginseng) – Ginsenosides from ginseng have shown anti‑cancer effects in preclinical studies, including inhibition of cell growth.
Flaxseed (Linum usitatissimum) – Lignans and other bioactive components have been linked with reduced breast cancer risk and slowed tumor growth in some population studies.
Black cohosh (Actaea racemosa) – Traditionally used as supportive therapy, it has been investigated for relieving menopausal symptoms and has noted bioactive constituents with possible effects on cancer‑related pathways.
Always consult a healthcare provider before using herbal remedies alongside prescribed cancer treatments.
