Blinken Promises To Strengthened US-Nigeria Relationship On Tinubu Call

U.S. Secretary of State, Antony Blinken spoke with President-elect, Bola Tinubu on the phone, to emphasize his continued commitment to further strengthening the US-Nigeria relationship.

Speaking about the development in a tweet on Wednesday, the US Mission in Nigeria, said, “@SecBlinken spoke with President-elect Bola Tinubu yesterday to emphasize his continued commitment to further strengthening the US-Nigeria relationship with the incoming administration.”

A press statement on the US Department of State’s website, titled, “Secretary Blinken’s Call with Nigerian President-elect Tinubu,” attributed to spokesperson Matthew Miller, on Tuesday, further revealed the details of the telephone conversation.

The statement reads in part, “Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke this morning with Nigerian President-elect Bola Tinubu, to emphasize his continued commitment to further strengthening the U.S.-Nigeria relationship with the incoming administration.

“The Secretary noted that the US-Nigeria partnership is built on shared interests and strong people-to-people ties and that those links should continue to strengthen under President-elect Tinubu’s tenure.

“Secretary Blinken and President-elect Tinubu discussed the importance of inclusive leadership that represents all Nigerians, continued comprehensive security cooperation, and reforms to support economic growth.”

The election that brought in Tinubu as the president-elect, is fiercely contested and is currently in the courts.
