Bolivia’s Arce Confirmed President As Socialists Return To Power

Bolivia’s Luis Arce has been sworn in as President, ushering the country’s dominant socialist party back into power a year after long-term leftist leader Evo Morales was ousted.

The inauguration Ceremony held in the highland city of La Paz, in front of heads of state from Argentina, Paraguay, Colombia and Spain, as well as senior officials from Chile, Iran and the government of Venezuela’s Nicolas Maduro.

Arce, the 57 year old former economy minister, comes into office facing the huge task of healing the divisions of a political crisis and the coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking a packed assembly of lawmakers and guests in Congress, Acre said they face the great challenge of rebuilding the economy and generate certainty and growth.
