CAF has announced the postponement of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) just before the scheduled draw ceremony. Despite the delay, CAF confirmed that the draw will proceed as planned.
The continental football body revealed on Tuesday that the tournament will now be held in August 2025, although a specific date is yet to be confirmed.
While acknowledging significant progress in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda—the host nations—CAF’s Technical and Infrastructure experts recommended additional time to ensure facilities meet the required standards for a successful championship.
CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe extended his appreciation to the presidents of the host countries: William Ruto of Kenya, Samia Suluhu Hassan of Tanzania, and Yoweri Museveni of Uganda, for their leadership and efforts in upgrading key infrastructure such as stadiums, training grounds, hotels, and medical facilities.
“I am impressed with the ongoing construction and renovations,” said Dr. Motsepe. “I am confident that by August 2025, all facilities will meet CAF standards for hosting a highly successful CHAN tournament.”
