Caleb University, Lagos, has said it is ready for innovative entrepreneurship.
This is in response to President Muhammadu Buhari signing of the Nigeria Start-Up Bill into law, last Wednesday.
The varsity’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Nosa Owens-Ibie, disclosed this in his opening address at the varsity’s International Conference 2022, tagged, ‘Future Forward: Innovative entrepreneurial ecosystem for sustainable development.’
Owens-Ibie described the signing of the Nigeria Start-Up Bill, as law and policy catching up to practice.
He said, “Just six days ago, on October 19, something new and mainstream happened. President Muhammadu Buhari signed the Nigeria Start-Up Act 2022.
The Act targets the growth of Nigeria’s technology ecosystem, with the National Digital Innovation and Entrepreneurship Council to be established, as the driver of required enabling environment for start-ups.
“What is happening is law and policy catching up with practice. Because Nigeria today has a core of restless techpreneurs who are all over Nigeria, the old and especially the young are flexing creative muscles, competing with and in somewhat disabled local environments, with amazing results.
“Right here in Caleb University, a crop of steel-hearted and really hungry budding entrepreneurs is rearing to go, and they have just a message: “we are ready”.
The Commissioner, Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, Yetunde Arobieke, stated that Innovative Entrepreneurship had a vital role to play in the ecosystem of the State and nation.
“The fact that Innovative Entrepreneurship has a vital role to play in the ecosystem of this State and our dear nation cannot be over emphasised future is about self-education and self-development, so there is need for Nigerian Universities and other higher institutions of learning to support and nurture students who would be facing the emerging future, driven by the limitless opportunities in creativity and technology.”
