Commissioner Tasks Lecturers On Education Research

Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Prince Mmom has urged lecturers at Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, to indulge in research that will enhance society and improve life.

The commissioner also advised the school management to utilize the N30m research funding received from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) for research that would positively impact the country.

Mmom stated this at the opening of the second yearly national conference of the Department of Educational Management, with the theme: ‘Innovating educational management for global competitiveness.’

The commissioner said it is imperative for the university to align itself with the global trend, noting that research rules the world.

He emphasized that in other climes, universities are saddled with coming up with innovations and new ideas that are vital to the growth of society.

The Acting Vice Chancellor of the institution, Okechuku Onuchuku said the grant is part of TETFund intervention to public tertiary institutions across the country.

He restated his support to facilitate conferences in the university, enhance its visibility and that of lecturers and encouraged the teaching and non-teaching staff to embark on impactful research that would accelerate growth in the nation.

The vice chancellor stressed that he would continue to offer the right academic and administrative leadership to boost the status of the university and lauded the Faculty of Education for attracting the conference to the institution.
