Cristiano Ronaldo could be heading to Major League Soccer (MLS) if his ongoing disagreement with Al-Nassr remains unresolved, according to Portuguese journalist Duarte Monteiro.
The 41-year-old forward is determined to maintain regular playing time as he prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, aiming to stay in peak condition ahead of the tournament.
Ronaldo was absent from Al-Nassr’s last two Saudi Pro League fixtures against Al-Riyadh and Al-Ittihad, fueling speculation about tensions behind the scenes. Reports suggest the five-time Ballon d’Or winner is unhappy with the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) for allegedly failing to strengthen Al-Nassr during the winter transfer window, while rivals such as Al-Hilal reportedly received greater backing.
The situation reportedly escalated after PIF blocked Karim Benzema’s potential transfer from Al-Ittihad to Al-Hilal in the final days of the window.
Speaking via Kooora, Monteiro stated:
“Ronaldo is frustrated because the club is not receiving enough support, and the directors lack the necessary authority. His main focus is playing consistently before the World Cup. If no agreement is reached, he will move to the American league.”
Although Ronaldo remains under contract with Al-Nassr until the summer of 2027 — with a reported €50 million exit clause — his priority is said to be continuing in the Saudi Pro League.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has also reported that Ronaldo has informed top Saudi Pro League officials that he is considering a summer departure.
If tensions persist, MLS could emerge as the Portuguese star’s next destination as he looks to secure regular football ahead of the global showpiece.
