The Federal Roads Maintenance Agency FERMA appealed to Lagos residents to desist from drain stuffing, to curb flooding and quick degeneration of roads.

Federal Road Maintenance Engineer FRME in charge of Lagos II West, Olisa Emeter, made the appeal in an interview with newsmen.

Emeter said that the agency’s drain evacuation interventions in the zone were being neutralized and made insignificant because some residents used drains as refuse dumps.

Speaking on flooding of bad sections under Iganmu Bridge, Emeter said the entire underground drainage network was cleared in a major contract executed in December 2020.

He said that the pathway was cleared up to the lagoon but the project was made insignificant because residents almost immediately clogged the channels again.

Emeter said the area was on the lower land and all refuse from the upland emptied into it, hence the constant flooding there.

He said that all the drains were cleaned and the road was reconstructed, but the problem of drain stuffing caused flooding to destroy the road.
