Cyclone: Power Lines Fail On India’s Coastline

Howling gales and crashing waves pound the coastline of India hours before a powerful cyclone is due to make landfall, with those unable to flee seeking shelter where they could.

Powerful winds and storm surges were forecast to hammer a 325-kilometre (200-mile) stretch of coast between Mandvi in India’s Gujarat state and Karachi in Pakistan.

As it now, Officials in Gujarat say the cyclone has lost its speed and is now passing over to Rajasthan, where heavy rainfall and flash floods are expected.

Tens of thousands of people in both countries have been moved to safer areas as heavy rains pound the region.
