Did JAMB Postpone 2026 UTME: Here’s What We Know

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has dismissed claims circulating online that the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) has been postponed, describing the report as false and misleading.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the examination body urged candidates and the public to ignore the alleged notice, stressing that it did not originate from the board.

“Our attention has been drawn to a malicious press release alleging that the 2026 UTME has been postponed. We wish to state clearly that the notice is fake and did not emanate from the board. Candidates and the general public are advised to disregard it. All arrangements for the 2026 UTME remain on course as scheduled,” JAMB stated.

The board had earlier confirmed that the 2026 UTME will take place between Thursday, April 16 and Saturday, April 25, 2026, with preparations ongoing nationwide.

Additional Updates And Context

JAMB’s clarification follows the conduct of the 2026 mock UTME on March 28, which experienced technical glitches in several Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres. Out of the 224,597 candidates who registered for the mock exam, 152,586 successfully participated across 989 centres nationwide.

As part of corrective measures, the board has delisted more than 20 CBT centres that failed to meet operational and technical standards during the exercise. This step, according to JAMB, is aimed at ensuring a smoother and more reliable process for the main examination.

The board has also intensified its warning against misinformation, noting that fake announcements about exam schedules are often spread on social media to mislead candidates. JAMB advised candidates to rely only on official communication channels, including its website, verified social media handles, and accredited media outlets.

In addition, the board reiterated its stance against examination malpractice, particularly emerging trends involving digital manipulation and impersonation. This follows challenges recorded in previous examination cycles, where thousands of results were cancelled due to infractions linked to technology abuse.

JAMB further encouraged candidates to use insights from the mock examination to improve their preparedness, especially in navigating the CBT format, time management, and adherence to examination guidelines.

Overall, the board maintains that preparations for the 2026 UTME are progressing as planned, with no changes to the announced schedule.
