Five security operatives have been arrested and are to be prosecuted over the February 12, 2026 security breach at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja, in an incident authorities say involved former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
The arrests followed a joint probe led by the Department of State Services (DSS), alongside the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), and the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development.
Those taken into custody include ASP Ayuba Yakubu of the Nigeria Police Force, Murtala Inuwa of the DSS, Najeeb Murtala of the Immigration Service, and Aviation Security officers Musa Adamu and Salihu Victor.
According to investigators, the suspects allegedly confessed to accepting bribes in exchange for granting unauthorised access to restricted airport areas and obstructing established security protocols.
Officials described the incident as a serious insider compromise of critical national infrastructure.
The suspects have since been handed over to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for prosecution.
Meanwhile, additional personnel from Immigration and Customs who were found to have improperly used their official uniforms to facilitate unauthorised access but were not considered criminally culpable will face internal disciplinary action.
Officials said the measures underscore the government’s zero-tolerance stance on breaches within Nigeria’s aviation security framework.
