FCT Council Chairman John Gabaya Defects From PDP To APC

The Chairman of Bwari Area Council in the Federal Capital Territory, John Gabaya, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a notable political shift ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement released through his Chief Press Secretary, Ernest Agada, in Abuja on Wednesday, Gabaya explained that the decision was driven by the need to strengthen development in the council through closer collaboration with the Federal Government.

According to him, the move also reflects a strategic political realignment as preparations gradually begin for the next election cycle.

Gabaya, who was elected on the PDP platform in 2019 and is set to complete his second term in June, is currently eyeing a seat in the House of Representatives for the AMAC/Bwari constituency in the 2027 elections.

He stated that his decision followed wide consultations and personal reflection, noting that all necessary constitutional procedures were observed.

“I have wholeheartedly embraced the APC as a platform for advancing peace, unity, and development in the Bwari Area Council, Abuja.

“It is for better collaborations with the Federal Government, to ensure long-term council development, and this was followed by extensive consultations with stakeholders.”

While expressing gratitude to those who supported his political journey under the PDP, Gabaya acknowledged their dedication and sacrifices over the years.

He also maintained that his defection should not be seen as a sign of hostility toward his former party members, but rather as a broader step taken in the interest of the council’s growth.

Looking ahead, the council chairman expressed optimism about the 2027 elections, praying for a peaceful and credible process, and voiced confidence that the council would “deliver overwhelming support for President Bola Tinubu.”
