Federal Government Increases NYSC Members’ Allowance to N77,000

The Federal Government has officially approved an increase in the monthly allowance for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members to N77,000, effective starting from July 2024. This adjustment is in line with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act of 2024, which seeks to enhance workers’ compensation across the nation.

The approval was conveyed through a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission, dated September 25, 2024, and signed by the Commission’s Chairman, Mr. Ekpo Nta.

This increase follows a recent advocacy visit by the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, to the Commission’s leadership, where he pushed for an improved welfare package for Corps members.

Ahmed expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for the decision, highlighting that the updated allowance would alleviate financial pressure on Corps members and motivate them toward greater commitment and productivity during their service year.

Before this adjustment, Corps members received a monthly stipend of N33,000.
