The Federal High Court has made a groundbreaking move by launching an online affidavit system, allowing the public to conveniently procure affidavits through a digital platform. This new development aligns with global best practices in the legal sector, streamlining processes and reducing the need for physical presence at the court.
This innovation, introduced by Chief Judge of the FHC, Justice John Tsoho, is aimed at enhancing efficiency in the judicial system. The online affidavit portal can be accessed via portal.fhc.gov.ng, offering services such as affidavits for loss of items, age declaration, and change of name.
Mr. Agwu Charles, head of the ICT department at the Lagos High Court, explained how the general public can easily use this new system. “Affidavits for non-case-related matters can now be obtained online by visiting portal.fhc.gov.ng and following the simple instructions provided,” he stated.
Adding more details, DCR Longe clarified that while the system currently handles non-case-related affidavits, affidavits that are filed in support of a case will still require manual submission due to the complexity involved.
The Federal High Court urges Nigerians to take advantage of this online affidavit system, which eliminates the need for physical presence at the court for specific affidavit types. This marks a significant step toward digital transformation in Nigeria’s legal sector, providing a more efficient and accessible way to procure essential legal documents.
By leveraging this online platform, the court hopes to enhance accessibility, reduce crowding in courtrooms, and modernize its operations in line with the growing trend of digitalization in the judiciary.
