Fresh Attacks In Niger, Plateau, Kebbi Leave Dozens Dead

Gunmen have reportedly killed at least 20 people across several communities in Niger State, while dozens more were feared dead in Kebbi State following coordinated attacks.

In Plateau State, suspected terrorists also carried out fresh assaults on mining and rural communities, leaving casualties and heightening fears among residents.

According to reports, the Niger State attack occurred in Shiroro Local Government Area, where residents said the assailants operated for hours, destroying homes and overwhelming security personnel. Many villagers were forced to flee to nearby areas including Gwada, Zumba, and Galadima Kogo.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed that gunmen invaded Bagna and Erena villages on Tuesday.

“Two community guards and a driver were killed, while others sustained injuries,” he said.

In Plateau, attackers struck a mining site in Kok village, Ropp District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, killing one person identified as Mr. Ayuba Pam, 36. The incident occurred around 6:10 p.m. as workers were leaving the site.

Two other persons were injured during the attack.

In a separate incident, gunmen stormed Chenye village in Bachi District of Riyom Local Government Area, killing another resident.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers fired sporadically, causing panic and forcing residents to flee.

A community member, Nefort Daniel, confirmed that the assaults created widespread fear and confusion in the affected areas.

The National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders, Rwang Tengwong, also confirmed the incidents and said further details would be provided.

In Kebbi State, suspected bandits reportedly killed dozens of residents and set homes ablaze in coordinated raids on Debbe, Shabanda, and neighbouring villages.

The state police spokesman, Bashir Usman, confirmed the attacks but noted that casualty figures are still being verified.

“At about 2230hours, suspected Mamudawa terrorist elements attacked the villages, resulting in loss of lives and destruction of property,” Usman said.

“Police tactical teams from Illo Division swiftly responded, intercepted the attackers, neutralised two of them, and recovered a Niger Republic Army uniform and Immigration uniforms..

“While reports are still being verified, the command cannot confirm the casualty figures circulating. However, we deeply sympathise with the affected communities.”

He added that additional security personnel have been deployed to prevent further violence.

“Security personnel have been reinforced and are actively on the ground to forestall further attacks,” he said, urging residents to remain calm as investigations continue.
