The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that nine registered political parties have collected access codes required to upload the details of their candidates for the 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections.
The commission disclosed this on Tuesday through its National Commissioner for Voter Education and Publicity, Mohammed Haruna, in Abuja.
“As of close of work on Monday, nine political have collected the access code for the national elections,” he said.
According to Haruna, the political parties that have obtained the access codes are Accord (A), Action Alliance (AA), African Democratic Congress (ADC), All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party (LP), National Democratic Congress (NDC), National Democratic Party (NDP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), and the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
He explained that it is the responsibility of political parties participating in the elections to approach INEC and collect the access codes, noting that the commission does not distribute them to party secretariats.
Haruna further stated that anyone authorised to collect an access code on behalf of a political party must present a letter of authorisation issued by the party’s leadership.
The INEC commissioner also reminded political parties that the commission has already released the guidelines for candidate nominations and urged them to comply fully with the stipulated procedures.
He added that party officials have been trained by the commission to ensure they understand the nomination process and requirements.
Haruna warned political parties against delaying the completion and online submission of their nomination forms until the deadline.
“INEC has been generous by extending the deadline from the close of work to midnight of the deadline date. If any political party decides to wait until the deadline, INEC cannot be blamed for that,” Haruna said.
According to the commission’s timetable, political parties are expected to submit nomination forms for Presidential and National Assembly candidates through the INEC Candidate Nomination Portal between June 27 and July 11, 2026.
INEC also scheduled the submission of nomination forms for governorship and State House of Assembly candidatesfrom July 18 to August 8, in line with preparations for the 2027 general elections.
