INEC Presents Certificates of Return to Edo Governor-Elect Okpebholo and Deputy Idahosa

Edo State Governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, along with his deputy, Hon. Denis Idahosa, were officially presented with their certificates of return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday, September 26. The presentation was carried out by Mrs. Rhoda Gomos, a national commissioner representing INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu.

Accompanying the governor-elect and his deputy to the INEC headquarters were prominent figures including the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, APC National Secretary, Senator Bashiru Ajibola, the Minister for Niger Delta Affairs, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, and Edo State Deputy Governor, Phillip Shuaibu, among others.

The Returning Officer for the election and the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Prof. Faruq Kuta, announced the result at the INEC collation center in Benin City.

Okpebholo secured 291,667 votes, winning 11 out of the 18 Local Government Areas in the state.

His closest rival, Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party, obtained 247,274 votes, winning seven LGAs.

Labour Party’s Olumide Akpata finished third with 22,761 votes.
