Giorgia Meloni, the Prime Minister of Italy, on Wednesday strongly condemned a deadly missile strike that hit a school in Minab during the early stage of the ongoing Middle East war 2026. Speaking before the Italian Senate, the leader described the incident as a tragedy and called for those responsible to be identified.
“On behalf of the government, I express my firm condemnation of the massacre of girls at the school in Minab, southern Iran,” she said, while also expressing solidarity with the families of the “very young victims” and stressing that she hopes “responsibility for this tragedy be swiftly ascertained”.
Authorities in Iran have accused the United States and Israel of carrying out the strike, an allegation both countries dispute. Donald Trump stated that the United States is investigating the incident, while Israel has denied any involvement. Iranian media reports claim at least 165 people were killed in the attack, which occurred on the first day of the conflict, though independent verification of the location and casualty figures has not yet been possible.
