Anthony Joshua, the former two-time heavyweight champion, secured earnings of more than double Daniel Dubois’ pay during their IBF heavyweight title fight at Wembley Stadium on Saturday. Despite Joshua’s knockout defeat in the fifth round, his guaranteed earnings were £6 million, with the potential to reach £25 million based on pay-per-view revenue, according to Sporty Salaries via GB News.
In contrast, Dubois, who defied expectations by knocking out Joshua, was guaranteed £3.5 million, with his total earnings possibly rising to £10 million. Joshua’s higher payout, despite the loss, is credited to the immense attention and viewership he attracted for the bout.
Following this, his fourth career loss, the 34-year-old Joshua expressed his determination to continue fighting, despite some calling for his retirement. In a video posted on Instagram on Monday, he shared his perspective: “We came up short, but we’ve got to focus on the positives, and that’s the mindset we need—staying positive, always. Look at what we’ve achieved in just 11 years. I want to thank everyone who’s been with me on this rollercoaster journey. But trust me, it’s far from over.”
Dubois’ victory has catapulted him into the upper ranks of the heavyweight division, positioning him for potential future bouts against Tyson Fury or Oleksandr Usyk. A rematch with Joshua also remains a possibility. The event set a record for British boxing attendance, with Turki Alalshikh announcing a crowd of over 98,128 fans.
