Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja has indefinitely postponed the trial of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), “sine die.”
The delay in Kanu’s trial occurred after Justice Nyako issued a recusal order on September 24, 2024. This decision came after Kanu requested that she step down from the case, citing a lack of confidence in her ability to fairly preside over the matter.
Following her recusal order, Justice Nyako returned Kanu’s case file to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, John Tsoho. However, it was reported that Tsoho subsequently sent the file back to Nyako for the continuation of the trial.
Nnamdi Kanu is facing terrorism charges brought against him by the Federal Government. He has been in detention since his rearrest in Kenya and his subsequent extraordinary rendition back to Nigeria in 2021.
