Governor Abba Yusuf has issued appointment letters to 1,038 newly engaged agricultural extension officers and support personnel as part of a broad initiative to modernize agriculture in Kano State.

The formal handover took place on Monday at the Coronation Hall within the Government House, marking a pivotal step in the state’s efforts to promote food security and uplift rural farming communities.

As stated by his spokesperson, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, the newly employed officers will play key roles in offering farming guidance, sharing best practices, and bridging the gap between government policies and rural development.

While addressing the new recruits, the governor urged them to uphold integrity and take their responsibilities seriously.

“You must shun absenteeism, laziness, misconduct, and all forms of corruption.

“As frontline ambassadors of agricultural transformation, your commitment will determine the success of our mission to revitalise farming across the state,” the governor warned.

He further described their mission as crucial to reshaping agriculture by helping local farmers adopt better techniques, gain access to quality inputs, and build stronger cooperatives.

“While Kano continues to lead in the number of extension workers nationwide, we found it necessary to further increase our workforce to reposition KNARDA under the Ministry of Agriculture,” he added.

Governor Yusuf also acknowledged the role of various government bodies including the Ministry of Agriculture, KNARDA, and the Civil Service Commission in making the recruitment possible.

In a brief address, Agriculture Commissioner Danjuma Mahmoud explained that the mass hiring was intended to raise food output and elevate the earnings of farmers across the state.

Similarly, the Chairperson of the Civil Service Commission, Ladidi Garko, referred to the move as a significant step toward reinforcing the state’s capacity in the agricultural sector.

Expressing appreciation on behalf of the new employees, Saminu Garba thanked the governor for the opportunity and assured him of their full support toward realizing the administration’s agricultural goals.
