The UK’s Labour Party has suspended MP Mike Amesbury following the release of a video allegedly showing him involved in a violent altercation. The video, published by Mail Online, appears to depict Amesbury striking a man to the ground and continuing the assault while bystanders shout, “Stop it.” The incident occurred in Frodsham in the early hours of Saturday.
The Labour Party confirmed on Sunday that Amesbury’s membership has been “administratively suspended pending an investigation.” Cheshire Police reported that a 55-year-old man, believed to be Amesbury, voluntarily participated in a police interview under caution related to the event. Police were called to the scene after reports of an attack, and investigations are ongoing.

In a statement, Amesbury said he would “cooperate fully with any inquiries” and explained he had reported the incident to the police, stating he felt threatened following an evening out with friends. Amesbury expressed his intention to “remain accessible” to his community and noted he would refrain from further public comments unless required by the authorities.
This suspension follows a previous incident in July of last year when a man was convicted of stalking Amesbury at his constituency office. The man had allegedly been seen looking through the windows and inquiring about the security arrangements.
