The Lagos State Government has announced the immediate closure of the pedestrian bridge linking Oshodi Bus Terminals 2 and 3, citing safety concerns. Authorities have raised alarms regarding the bridge’s structural integrity and overall safety.
In a statement released on Friday, Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, highlighted the need for urgent attention to the bridge’s condition.
“The order also mandated the contractor responsible for the initial construction of the terminal, through the Office of Infrastructure, to place concrete barriers at the entrances leading to the bridge. This is to safeguard the lives of pedestrians who use the infrastructure,” he said.
Osiyemi further clarified that the closure would allow for a thorough structural integrity assessment to determine if the bridge requires repairs or reconstruction. He urged pedestrians to use an alternative bridge located just 30 meters away during the evaluation.
