Lagos State Commissioner for Education, Folasade Adefisayo, has emphasised the need for school administrators to empower their students by imparting them with skills.
The commissioner made the call at the 95th Founder’s Day celebration of Queens College Lagos, on Monday.
Adefisayo maintained that exposing students to skills would make them “more creative and imaginative”
She advised that the girl-child learns a skill that they can leverage after their secondary and tertiary education.
“People have high tendencies to learn new skills at early ages, and when exposed to new experiences through skills development, they become more creative and imaginative.
“No matter the level of education given, it is essential that the girl-child learns a skill as something to fall back on after graduation from secondary and tertiary institutions.
“There is a need for the government to invest more in Queens College, Yaba, because there are great potentials here,’’ she said.
Adefisyo further stated that the school had produced great women including the first female Vice Chancellor in Nigeria, late Prof. Grace Alele-Williams, and the newly-appointed first female Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola.
