Liverpool Target Atalanta Star Ademola Lookman for Summer Transfer

Nigeria international Ademola Lookman could be on his way back to the Premier League, with reports indicating that Atalanta are open to selling the in-form winger to Liverpool this summer.

Lookman, who played a pivotal role in Atalanta’s UEFA Europa League triumph, finished 14th in the 2024 Ballon d’Or rankings and is now considered one of the club’s most prized assets. His outstanding performances have drawn interest from several top European clubs, with Liverpool reportedly emerging as frontrunners for his signature.

The 26-year-old winger is well-acquainted with English football, having previously represented Everton, Fulham, and Leicester City in the Premier League. Since moving to Serie A, Lookman has enjoyed a career resurgence, and his impressive form in Bergamo has positioned him as a top transfer target.

According to Italian publication Il Giorno, Atalanta’s newly appointed Director of Global Development, John Murtough—formerly of Manchester United—is focused on maximizing the club’s revenue during the transfer window. Both Lookman and Brazilian midfielder Ederson are expected to attract major bids, with Manchester United and Manchester City reportedly interested in the latter.

For Liverpool, Lookman represents a versatile, high-impact attacking option, especially amid uncertainty in their forward line under an incoming manager. His speed, creativity, and goal-scoring ability could bring a fresh dynamic to the Reds’ attack.

Atalanta has a history of securing profitable deals with Premier League clubs, having previously sold Amad Diallo and Rasmus Højlund to Manchester United, Cristian Romero to Tottenham Hotspur, and Timothy Castagne and Caleb Okoli to Leicester City.

If the transfer materializes, Lookman would join the ranks of Nigerian players to feature for Liverpool, such as Victor Moses, and could become a vital part of the club’s new era at Anfield.
