Multiple Fatalities as Tanker Crash Causes Gridlock on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

As of Friday, April 18, 2025, a significant traffic disruption occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway due to a multiple-vehicle accident near the Berger area in Lagos State.

Incident Details:

In the early hours of the morning, a trailer transporting a container overturned on the outbound (Ibadan-bound) lane of the expressway. The fallen container landed on several vehicles, leading to a chain of collisions. Subsequently, a Lafarge cement mixer and a car collided while attempting to avoid the initial crash site.

Casualties and Damage:

Multiple fatalities have been confirmed, though the exact number remains unspecified. At least three vehicles were directly impacted by the accident.

Traffic Impact:

The accident caused a complete blockage of the outbound lane, resulting in a traffic gridlock extending from the Berger Bridge to the Old Toll Gate near 7Up. Some motorists resorted to driving against traffic on the inbound lane, exacerbating congestion in both directions. citeturn0search1
