Ndidi Returns After Three Months Out

Leicester City coach, Brendan Rodgers, has been handed a major boost ahead of the new Premier League season with the return of Wilfred Ndidi to training

This was made known on Instagram Wednesday after the Foxes posted a video of the 25-year-old midfielder running onto the pitch to join his teammates for his sixth pre-season training at the club.

Ndidi, who was full of smiles on his return, was put through his paces and was drilled in shuttle races as the Foxes intensify their preparations for the new EPL campaign.

Beneath the video, the club wrote, “Our Nigeria international (Ndidi) is into the pre-season fold.”

His return to action will also hand Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro, a big boost ahead of his team’s 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Guinea-Bissau in September.

The former Genk star, who has two years left on his current deal at the club, last featured for the Eagles in their round of 16 clash against Tunisia at the 2022 AFCON in Cameroon in January, missing the team’s last six games.

Also seen in the video was fellow Nigerian Kelechi Iheanacho, who had a decent campaign last term, scoring eight goals with nine assists in 41 games across all competitions.

Ndidi has been out since sustaining a knee injury in Leicester City’s 2-1 second leg defeat at Rennes in the Europa Conference League in March, missing the club’s last 17 games.

Meanwhile, Leicester are planning an overseas training camp and six friendlies over the course of the summer as Rodgers hopes a rigorous pre-season will lead to a strong start to the new campaign.

During the first fortnight of pre-season, City will play the first of their summer fixtures but this will be behind closed doors.

City will then head abroad for an overseas camp, their first since before the COVID-19 pandemic, with Evian on Lake Geneva the likely destination, with the club having spent time during a couple of previous summers. On their way back, they will stop off in Belgium for their first public friendly against sister side OH Leuven on Saturday, July 16. That is the only pre-season fixture so far confirmed by the club.
