Over 400 midwives and nurses have been trained on the use of V-Scan Portable Hand-held Ultrasound machines in four states of Osun, Kwara, Lagos and the FCT, with a view to improving knowledge on maternal health issues.
Speaking during the opening of a two-day training programme for midwives and nurses in the four states on the use of the technology in Ilorin, programme Coordinator of Wellbeing Foundation Africa, Tonade Ayomide, noted, that it is the first time midwives and nurses are trained on the use of ultrasound scan machines in the count
Ayomide, noted that Doctors before the latest development, have been solely responsible for handling the ultrasound scan machines, with the attendant long queues in hospitals, leaving patients waiting and spending long hours before accessing health care.
Ayomide while noting that the training will greatly impact on maternal healthcare, also disclosed the foundation’s readiness to work endlessly in empowering the nation’s healthcare workers to deliver on their mandate.
The midwives were provided with both theoretical and practical sessions on the use of the V-Scan machine, covering the basic principles of ultrasound technology, image acquisition, interpretation, and reporting.
