Nigeria Protests: Protesters March On The Streets, Lament Hardship

Protesters have gathered across Nigeria on Thursday, 1st of August, 2024, to make do on their call for good governance.

Basic food items have become too expensive for many Nigerians to afford.

In some parts of the country, and across the streets, people have continued to protest the continuous rise in food prices in Africa’s biggest economy.

Many all over the world are feeling the high cost of living and pressures of inflation but it’s a lot worse in Nigeria worse because of the removal of subsidy on fuel by the government and the persistent weakening of the local currency, the Naira, against major foreign currencies.

The police have also been reported to make some arrests where the protests turned violent at the Eagle square in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Recently, thousands of Nigerians marched on the streets in northern states of Niger, Kano, Kogi and Ibadan to demand urgent interventions that will address the rising cost of living.
