The Nigeria university games association (NUGA) has called for assistance because of concern that the nation might not be able to afford to travel to the world university games in Chengdu, China.
The best student-athletes from across the world are scheduled to take part at the games from July 28 to august 8.
Speaking on behalf of NUGA, Chidiebere Ezeani, the acting general secretary expressed the urgent need for assistance.

“We appeal to the government to come to our aid and support our athletes to the world university games; we call upon the government, sports authorities, and corporate sponsors to recognize the immense value of investing in university athletes. They are the future of Nigerian sports, and their success will inspire generations to come.”

75 student-athletes were selected from 22 universities to represent Nigeria in seven different sports disciplines.
