Nigerian Teachers Calls For Trainings To Improve Sector

The Teachers Registration Council Of Nigeria says there is an urgent need for Nigeria to prioritize teachers training and reward system to improve its education sector for good.

The Registrar,Teachers Registration Council Of Nigeria, Professor Josiah Ajiboye made this known at a one day workshop organised by the Education Correspondence Association Of Nigeria (ECAN) in Abuja.

Commission Holds Capacity Training For Teachers 

Represented by the Head of Regulation, Accreditation and Enforcement of the council, Hammed Okunola, the Registrar emphasized that the challenge of quackery in the teaching profession especially at the Basic Education level has continued to mock the nation’s education sector.

He charged leaders to do away with the politicisation of education which is leading to the springing up of tertiary institutions without adequate funding policies, while urging them to concentrate on adequate welfare for teachers.

The President, Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU), Dr Smart Olugbeko, opined that poor implementation of policies were hindering teacher education in the country.

Olugbeko highlighted that policies such as funding,recruitment,quality assurance and training among others, are factors millitating against the growth of the country’s education sector.

While calling for the enhancement of the teaching profession in Nigeria to meet global best practices, the Chairman, Education Correspondence Association of Nigeria( ECAN) Chux Ukwuatu, noted that proper teacher education is a tool required by professionals to excel in a dynamic global community.

The theme of the workshop is “Strengthening Teacher Education: Challenges and Opportunities in Basic Education Sub-sector in Nigeria”.
