NiMet Forecasts Heavy Rains, Thunderstorms Across Nigeria

‎The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has warned of thunderstorms and rainfall across the country between Monday and Wednesday.

‎‎On Monday morning, isolated thunderstorms with moderate rain are expected in Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba. By afternoon and evening, more storms will hit the northern region, with flash floods possible in Adamawa, Taraba, and Gombe.

‎‎The central states will see cloudy skies and sunshine in the morning, followed by moderate rainfall in Niger, Kogi, Kwara, the FCT, and Benue. Later, thunderstorms are expected across most parts of the region. In the South, cloudy conditions will dominate the morning with rains in Ekiti, Ondo, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River. More rain is likely later in the day.

‎‎On Tuesday, the North will experience cloudy skies with sunshine, along with thunderstorms in Borno, Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba, and Adamawa. Later, rains will spread to Kano, Jigawa, Yobe, Katsina, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Taraba.

‎‎In the central region, cloudy skies and moderate rainfall are expected in Kogi, Niger, the FCT, Kwara, and Nasarawa. Thunderstorms are forecast for Niger, Kogi, Kwara, Benue, and the FCT later in the day. The South will be cloudy in the morning, with rains likely in Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo, Enugu, Anambra, Ebonyi, and Delta, followed by widespread light to moderate rainfall later.

‎‎On Wednesday, cloudy skies with sunshine are forecast over the North, with light rain possible in Sokoto and Zamfara. By afternoon, thunderstorms with moderate rainfall will affect Borno, Adamawa, Taraba, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Sokoto.

‎‎In the central region, Abuja, Kogi, Kwara, and Niger may see light showers in the morning, with heavier rains expected later in Benue, Kwara, Kogi, and Niger. The southern region will remain cloudy in the morning, with moderate rains predicted later in the day.

‎‎NiMet advised motorists to avoid driving in heavy downpours and urged farmers not to apply fertilisers or pesticides just before rainfall. Residents were told to secure loose items, disconnect electrical appliances, and stay away from tall trees during storms. Airlines have also been advised to obtain airport-specific forecasts for safe planning.
