As part of the activities to mark the 50th anniversary of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, the Katsina State Coordinator, Aisha Muhammed, has led her Borno State counterpart, Muhammed Adamu, and corps members on a National Unity Walk within the metropolis.
Muhammed who said the scheme has lived more than its 3 major objectives of reconciliation, rehabilitation, and reconstruction, added that she is a beneficiary of the process while serving the nation years ago.
The National Unity Walk took the two state coordinators of Katsina, Aisha Muhammed, and her Borno State counterpart, Muhammed Adamu, staff of the scheme, and corps members about 1 kilometre from the old stadium at Kofar Keke, through the major streets, and ended at the Emir of Katsina’s Palace.
NYSC To Allow Corps Members Serve in Spouses State of Residence
Addressing the corps members at the Emir’s Palace, Muhammed said the NYSC has in the last 50 years lived above its mandate of uniting the nation, as the only surviving project during General Yakubu Gowon’s reign till date.
According to her, she is a preacher of peace, and a beneficiary of the major objectives of the scheme, having engaged in inter-tribal and state marriage.
The Katsina State Coordinator of the NYSC, further added that corps members have positively impacted their host communities, especially assisting the government fill in spaces, where there is a lack of manpower.
Similarly, the Borno State Coordinator, Muhammed Adamu, attested to the fact that the scheme has helped to rebuild the state, following years of insurgency by the Boko haram terrorists.
Some corps members who counted themselves lucky to be part of the NYSC golden jubilee, say they will work hard to live good legacies behind, at the end of their service year.
The 2 state coordinators of the scheme expressed hope that in the next 50 years, Nigerians will be glad that NYSC has come to stay.
