Orisa Nears ₦100 Million After 3 weeks At Nigerian Box Office

Odunlade Adekola’s Yoruba-style epic Orisa is almost at ₦100 million gross profits within three weeks since its debut.

Although it has maintained the fourth position on the domestic box office chart, it still ranks as the top leading local title in Nigerian cinema.

The newly released figures by the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN) showed that Orisa recorded over ₦20 million between August 4, 2023, to August 10, 2023.

It opened with ₦40 million between July 21, 2023, to July 27, 2023, and between July 28, 2023, to August 3, 2023, it recorded another ₦28 million, which brings the total to over ₦88 million in just three weeks.

In other news, Barbie still stays strong at number one with over ₦37 million between August 4, 2023, and August 10, 2023, bringing its cumulative since its release to ₦160 million. In the second spot, we have Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One with ₦28 million. This makes it one month in the cinema with a total of ₦200 million in gross.

Newcomer Meg 2: The Trench comes in third in its first week in cinemas with ₦33 million.

With exciting new Nigerian titles like Mikolo coming to theatres this week, we hope to see more local movies dominating the box office.
