Paris Olympics: Behold! Nigeria’s Medals In The Diaspora

Nigeria has always participated in the Olympics since 1952, they have only missed one…that was the Montreal 1976 Olympics. This year, Nigeria had 88 athletes participating in 12 sport at the Paris 2024.

Unfortunately Team Nigeria did not have any single medal to show for the resources committed to the Games. But elsewhere, athletes of Nigerian descent were excelling. Consider the list:

  • Samu Omoridion won gold medal in football for Spain
  • Michael Olise won silver medal in football for France
  • Yemisi Ogunleye won gold medal in shot put for Germany
  • Annette Echokunwoke won silver medal in hammer throw for USA
  • Salwa Eid Naser (born Ebelechukwu Agbapuonwu) won silver medal in 400m event for Bahrain.

In total, there are Nigerians that  won two gold and three silver medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics for different countries but no one from our Nigerian team won any medal!
