Nigeria’s major opposition parties have gathered in Abuja for a summit focused on improving cooperation and coordination ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The meeting, organised by the G-100, is taking place at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre under the theme, ‘A Framework for Opposition Cooperation and Coordination’.
Representatives of six political parties are participating in the summit. They include the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) led by Taminu Turaki, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) and Social Democratic Party (SDP).
The gathering is aimed at exploring ways the opposition parties can work together more effectively as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.
Summit convener Salihu Lukman explained that the meeting is not intended to determine who will emerge as the opposition’s presidential candidate.
Instead, he said the focus is on creating a workable structure that will allow the parties to cooperate and coordinate their activities ahead of the election.
The summit comes amid growing efforts by opposition parties to build a stronger political platform and develop a coordinated strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections.
