Police Arrest Baruwa After NURTW Secretariat Takeover In Abuja

The Nigeria Police Force has arrested Tajudeen Baruwa following a dramatic takeover of the national secretariat of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in Abuja.

Baruwa was taken into custody on Monday, just hours after he led members of his faction to seize control of the union’s headquarters from a rival group.

Earlier in the day, Baruwa and his supporters stormed the secretariat, displacing the faction led by Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, before security operatives intervened.

The incident is the latest development in a prolonged leadership crisis that has divided the union since 2024. The internal conflict between the Baruwa and MC Oluomo factions has led to multiple confrontations and legal battles.

Although members of the union elected MC Oluomo as National President in November 2024, the dispute later moved to court, where a ruling reportedly favoured Baruwa, setting the stage for the latest confrontation.

Monday’s takeover and subsequent arrest highlight the deepening tensions within the union, as authorities continue efforts to restore order.
