Nigeria’s President and Chairman of ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on Tuesday in Abuja said the security challenges in the West Coast had been thoroughly reviewed and a properly-funded strategy would be instituted to tackle terrorism.
President Tinubu made the disclosure about a new approach by ECOWAS leaders to tackle security, with more measurable results, after a meeting with Presidents of the Republic of Benin, Patrice Talon, Guinea-Bissau, Umaru Sissoco Embalo, Niger Republic, Mohamed Bazoum, and the President of Ecowas Commission, Omar Alieu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The Nigerian leader said the region is capable of engineering its finances in the fight against insecurity.
Briefing journalists after the closed-door meeting, the Ecowas Commission President said the leaders reviewed the political and security situation in the sub-region of West Africa, notably the transition in Mali, Burkina Faso, and Guinea, and took the decision to re-engage the three countries at the highest levels.
He added that the member at the Trica in the person of his Excellency, the President of the Republic of Benin will undertake a mission to these three countries on behalf of the Heads of State reaffirming their commitment to expeditious transition to democracy in the affected nations.
