PSC Extends Police Constable Recruitment Deadline

The Police Service Commission has approved a two week extension of the ongoing recruitment exercise for 50,000 constables into the Nigeria Police Force following uneven participation across states.

In a statement issued on Monday and signed by Torty Njoku Kalu, Head of Protocol and Public Affairs of the Commission, the PSC said the application portal, which opened on December 15, 2025, will now close on February 8, 2026.

The Commission explained that while states such as Adamawa, Benue and Kaduna recorded high numbers of applicants, others including Lagos, Ogun, Bayelsa, Ebonyi and Anambra showed significantly lower levels of participation.

The statement said, “This decision follows the receipt of over 400,000 applications and a review showing significant disparities in state participation. While some states like Adamawa, Benue, and Kaduna have high application numbers, states such as Lagos, Ogun, Bayelsa, Ebonyi, and Anambra have notably lower submissions.

“The extension aims to ensure equitable representation nationwide. All eligible Nigerians, particularly from above-mentioned states with fewer applications, are strongly encouraged to apply via the official portal: npfapplication.psc.gov.ng.”

It further stated, “State Governments, Local Government Councils, sociocultural organizations, religious bodies, community leaders, and other stakeholders are strongly encouraged to mobilize and sensitize eligible citizens within their jurisdictions to apply before the new deadline.

“The PSC and NPF reaffirm their commitment to a fair and transparent recruitment process.”

The extension comes amid ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to address rising security challenges across the country.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had earlier declared a nationwide security emergency and directed immediate large scale recruitment into the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Police Force.

In a statement released from the State House, the President ordered the recruitment of 20,000 additional police officers, bringing the total planned intake to 50,000.

He also approved the use of National Youth Service Corps camps as temporary training centres for the new recruits.
