Qatar 2022: Super Eagles Consolidate On World Cup Qualifying Group Lead, With A 2-1 Win In Cape Verde

Super Eagles have made it six-points as they defeated Cape Verde at home this Tuesday 7 September.

They recorded a 2-1 win which has taken them three points clear of the second-placed Liberia.

The win is massive as they have the advantage of playing back-to-back against bottom placed Central African Republic in Nigeria and Douala.

If they get the maximum points from those two matches, that will earn them the eternal  leadership of Group C, irrespective of results obtained by both Cape Verde and Liberia.

Playing in the present of a handful spectators of both Nigeria and Cape Verde, it was the home team that got on the score sheet first when Dylan Tavares took advantage of mix-up in the Nigerian defence to slot home behind a badly positioned Maduka  Okoye in goal for Nigeria.

Ten minutes later, Victor Osimhen put Nigeria level when he scrambled home a cross from the left flank.

Nigeria was offered a gift of a goal in the 76th minute when in apparent move to douse tension, a hard pressed Kenny Rocha Santos lobbed the ball back to his goalkeeper, Vozinha who was badly positioned on his lines.

Victory took the Eagles to maximum six points from two matches, three points ahead of second –placed Liberia, ahead of the Day 3 and 4 games scheduled for October.
